The distrust of bigger Nations is quite understandable and it is as a result of fear of being dominated by the more powerful Nations like what existed between Germany and Russia.
A lot of European nations built their wealth through colonialism. Others made money by undermining sovereignty of independent nations. Therefore, hatred of big nations,especially the big economies is understandable.
