Computer Generated Images or CGI in short has enhanced storytelling in the modern movies. Even though I like CGI, sometimes I feel that it is overused. It depends on who wields it. CGI is a tool, and some VFX artists use it properly and others do not. Look at a movie like Deadpool and Wolverine against a movie like Pacific Rim. While the latter has obvious CGI, the Deadpool movie does much better with it.
I see CGI being overused, sometimes overshadowing story and character depth. I’ve watched movies where effects felt distracting rather than enhancing. When used thoughtfully, CGI adds magic, but overreliance makes the content hollow, less engaging films.
