I signed up for a half marathon in August.

It's a trail run of 13ish miles and I have 12 hours to do it. I'm planning to fast hike most of it. I'll also try to run some of it.

August in my area is hot and humid. I plan to wear minimal clothing and take minimal gear which is different than what I normally have when hiking.

My gear will pretty much consist of trail running shoes, hiking socks, half tights, compression tank top shirt, sunglasses, headband, and in my small camelback-like backpack will have 3-liter water bladder, some gels/bars/chews, minimal first aid kit, flashlight with extra batteries, and electronics stuff (mainly for my GoPro as I will be filming it).

I'm going to be training a few days a week coming up.

Anyone ever do a half marathon? Have any tips?

Any tips on good trail runners?

I've done solo half marathons almost weekly (just shy of 10 or so miles), toying with the idea of doing a famous full marathon, but never got around to it before I lost interest in running over gaining muscle with bodybuilding.

I would never do it on a trail, though. Ankles, knees, yikes!

Do you have a pledging link for time/distance by chance?

My only tip is that once you're in the zone, don't let the pain take you out of it. Your body is incredible and can take much more than it tells you not to do. If you break out of that mentality, it's hard to get back into it, and the time it takes you to complete the 10 (in this case, 13) miles will only increase, and afterwards, it will make you feel down about it.

Stay focused on the goal and enjoy the euphoria that comes with running while ignoring any negative thoughts.

I have never done a half-marathon, but I have known and seen people who do marathons, and it takes a lot to keep going and complete it. I am always amazed at how well some people do in marathons.

Good luck on your marathon! :)
I'm excited about it.

Got me some really nice trail running shoes yesterday. And if I end up hating it, the shoes will also be great for hiking which is something I love to do.

That is always a good thing. I have heard from others who have run marathons, some big and some small, it is tough but it is all worth it in the end and many say the adrenaline rush is the one thing that kept them going.

I hope I get that "runner's high" and it makes me perk up and keep running. We'll see.
