My daughter and I are heading to London for the first time in August to go and see BTS member Jin, on his first solo tour.
With the price of travel being so low right now, for some reason, you should have gone to Korea instead!
But, UK is on my list.
How did you feel the first time you travelled to a new place?
I knew that I always wanted to go to Japan in high school. So, I was so excited to have the opportunity to get a job that sent me there (here). It was a win-win in my book.
Of course, by the context of that, you probably know how it went: I enjoyed Japan so much that I stayed after my job ended.
Do you have any tips for someone doing it for the first time?
This may not be so obvious to some, but learn the culture and applicable laws, and abide by both, wherever you go, especially if going to Asia or the Middle East.
We've had an uptick in nuisance streamers in Japan, Korea, and the Philippines, thinking that the Western ways are how things are done here and that the community of the Asian countries will respect how you live your life while you bring those ways with you. It shouldn't have worked out for
Johnny Somali, only getting 3 months jail here in Japan, but it looks like he's facing years in Korea, so that will be a win for Japan and Korea when he's finally convicted.
Vitaly Zdorovetskiy is a little more famous (10 million YouTube subscribers), so I think he thought he could get away with it, but he's going to be in the Philippines jail for a couple of years, too.
Marijuana/THC is also a big no-no, too. I'm sure everyone has heard of
Brittney Griner serving time in Russia (geographically in Asia), but some may not have heard about Jarred Shaw (another basketball player) who may face a firing squad (death penalty) for
smuggling candies into Indonesia.
TL'DR: Just know where you are going before you're going, and if you can't assimilate, then stay home.
