A certain amount of dedicated time to a playing a game is acceptable but when one's life start revolving around a game and going away from it causes frustration, angry, ill health and social withdrawal then, that could be a sign of addiction. A child I knew was addicted to the game that was banned in the country, and it was banned for a reason that many children has lost their lives playing it. Although banned, kids found an illegal way to continue playing and in the end he was so violent that he was ready to stab his mother for offering him food, saying that it was a disturbance for him. He was then dragged to a psychiatrist and recovered after a long treatment. Have you known anyone with similar incidences? How, do you prevent game addictions?

I remember many years ago, when I was in a bad relationship, playing video games was my way to shut away and ignore everything I was going through. I remember becoming addicted to Halo 3 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 when I met a group of friends playing the games, and it started to affect my life quite badly.

Dealing with a video game addiction is never easy once you get addicted. Still, it is possible to get out of that addiction if you find ways to limit your gaming time and find things to take your mind off video games when you tell yourself you need to step away.

I am glad that you were able to handle the gaming addiction that you had. When I began playing games with my boyfriend, he made it a point of duty that we play most weekends even when I have other activities that I would wish to do for that weekend.

It took a lot of courage before I was able to make us stop because I understood that he doesn't have more friends who are free during weekends to come play games with him.

Games are a great way to step away from life's difficulties, especially the ones you face. It could be a temporary escape from anxiety or emotional pain. Instead of being addicted to games, you can seek advice from friends and family or even professionals to help you overcome such problems.

I do not know anyone personally who is addicted to games, in a way that they need treatment. But I have nephews addicted to games. But thankfully they are not addicted in a way that they need therapy. Having said that I have heard of stories of game addiction. I have heard about withdrawal symptoms in kids addicted to gaming.

I had battled an addiction with Temple Run game. I would spend so much time playing the game and won't be able to do anything for myself. I had to sit and ask myself what I gained from those long hours of game. That's the day my gaming addiction stopped.
This shows that you still had self-control and power to make a conscious decision. Congrats! However, those really addicted have lost the ability to reason out or to stop themselves from playing despite knowing that what they are doing is not right.

Game addiction might be difficult to deal with but once you recognize the issue and you are ready to make a decision to stop, that's already a big step forward.

I suffered from video game addiction as a teenager and I never believed that I could break free from it. I didn't own a video game and I had to play at game centers that I paid to play. I would leave the house to the game centre and I would play video games from that time to 1am the following morning. That's when I would be heading home. To continue again the next day. I somehow outgrew it.
