It seems the world today has become so transactional that it is even difficult to have genuine friendships any longer. It seems people only are friends with people for as long as they have what to benefit from each other. And friendships almost don't continue when the mutual benefits are no more.

Do you believe that friendships today are driven by shared interests than genuine fondness?

Everything in the world now has become more transactional in nature. People don't even take interest in being a person's friend if they can't guage what they would benefit from the friendship. Even childhood friendships easily break up because at a point, they go different paths and there is no shared interest.

It is the way that people have made the world to be that has made everything including friendships to be defined by how much one is to gain from the friendship. Welcome to the world of selfish friendships.

I believe friendships today is heavily dependent on shared interests, like bonding over gaming or book clubs, more than absolute love and fondness. Shared passions, such as hiking local trails together, spark connection and sustain bonds, especially in our busy, digital world. Still, I find genuine affection, like checking in over coffee, deepens ties, but interests often start and maintain the relationship more than pure emotional devotion.
