In the olden era, the words "I love you" had such a strong, profound and serious meaning that it almost directly indicated that the person was ready for a commitment. However, in the modern times, we hear these words from almost everyone around us in all platonic relationships, such that when it is spoken in the romantic manner, one is forced to wonder, if it has same deep meaning in it. Have you ever had an incident where by someone said these words to you but did not mean them in a long run?

I personally do no think it holds the same meaning anymore, not like it used to. People many years ago used to say it and mean it but nowadays, you hear it thrown around a lot and most of the time it is either used to manipulate people or just used because they can.

It's a shame really, that the meaning means so little now to so many.

It's true, back then saying i love you carried real weight like a commitment. Today it gets tossed around so casually that it's meaning sometimes feels meaningless. You hear it in friendships , texts, even after knowing someone for a short while.
