discuss Do certain people truly own a place? Warning: Movie "Casino" spoiler

This thread covers all aspects of ideologies, including beliefs, principles, traditions, policies, and their influence on society and culture.
The deed on my house says I own the place, but the taxes I pay yearly say otherwise.

I always maintain that the indigenes should be respected.
Sure. But the indigenes should also understand and accept that generations before them, their ancestors, made decisions to allow for land and power to be stripped from them in deals that benefited them at the time. Therefore, there's an extent to which that respect should go, and where the line is drawn.

Let me give you a typical real life scenario.

There is a tribe in my country that are very adventurous. They can go to places that are indigenously owned by others and achieve good success in business and other productive endeavors. Their hosts welcome them and make them feel comfortable co-existing together. As time passes, they want to dominate the indigenes of that place. They make moves that are oppressive to the indigenes. That's disrespect to a people that welcomed you and fraternized with you. In this particular case, there was a revolt from the hosts and it led to a civil war.
