discuss Disconnect

A thread covering the latest news on trends, groundbreaking technologies, and digital innovations reshaping the tech landscape.
Have you ever considered disconnecting?
Yes, and regularly still do it for brief periods as opposed to one one-month+ disconnection session.

Disconnect from everything and rely on the land.
With how society is today, it can't be completely done, but enough to an extent of disconnecting from social media, etc., can.

There's always going to be that kiosk or some other device that you need to use to do something. However, I don't count using these under "disconnecting" because they're essential, or you can't do anything.

But sadly, I cannot do it for a long time as using tech is a part of my job.
Right.

Same here. Most every tool I use at work is tech-based so I'd have to quit my career to disconnect completely.

But like HW said, temporarily disconnecting is a good way to do it. I usually try to semi-do it on weekends. I say semi-do it because I do a hiking YouTube so I'm filming most of my hike but my phone usually has no signal and that's the nice part.

Yes, I have done it before for my peace of mind, especially when my mental health and well-being declined. It is beneficial to disconnect and engage in activities outside the internet.
If I were a guessing man, I'd say the increasingly number of mental health and anxiety cases on the rise is due to all the tech. No one does anything manually anymore. Doing stuff manually stimulates our brains, emotions, and feelings. We lack that - we get depressed and anxious.

Disconnecting is something I have considered many times before but due to my life and work and the fact that I stay in contact with most of my friends and family through the internet, it is not something I have done despite having considered it.

I would love to be able to one day though just head off to a quiet place and not have any form of technology or internet access, just myself, family or friends as company and just chilling out doing things we wouldn't normally do if we were connected. I would imagine it is a great feeling to just disconnect and would help mentally in many ways.

Statistics have shown that the high rate of mental health issues is as a result of the rise in tech. Quite a lot of people get consumed in tech, especially phones . I try to limit my screen time and the use of social media in moderation. I don't let it consume my time as it can take a toll on my mental health.
