discuss Boring Conversations Between Mates

This thread focuses on relationships, including communication, dynamics, challenges, advice, and their impact on personal growth and connections.
This is not new as I have found myself in such conversation multiple times even with someone that is so close to me like my partner. The only thing is when the conversation gets too boring, we can definitely make a u-turn and talk about something else. It's just a way to reignite the talk or we could even ask questions to make it more lively.

You are right. Changing the topic will help. For me, if my partner insists on continuing I just "switch off" as in my mind is no longer there even if I'm physically present; alternatively, I doze off.

When I realize that the conversation is not lively, I would want us to switch to something more fun. We can go watch reels on TikTok together. We must not always force a conversation even when it is boring.

I find this can happen more than you think it will, one moment you can be talking about something you are both really interested in and then it can turn and one of you may not be as interested as the other about what you are talking about.

Sometimes just taking some time apart can prevent the boring conversations I have found or even getting to know your boyfriend or girlfriend a little better to understand what really interests them so the conversations can be less boring.

It's effective what you said about taking some time apart but that only works for those who are not the clingy type of person in their relationship. Those people can't give their partner any space. It can be choking and depressing sometimes.

This is very true and it tends to happen more than we see or hear about. With any relationship even with family members such as siblings, parents, cousins and such, you can always spend too much time around them and it can get a bit too much, so much so that things do start to get out of hand or you find you start to get bored of one another.

Sometimes a break is what is needed and it is a shame those who tend to be clingy do not always see it that way.

Sometimes conversations are boring, in a situation like these we agree to stop communicating and do something else. usually when a conversation gets boring, one of us goes into kitchen to make tea or coffee, or starts cleaning the house. Our boring conversations are usually broken by chores.

It’s totally normal for conversations to feel dull sometimes, even in the best relationships. The key is how you handle it. Personally, I think honesty with kindness works best. If I’m tired or not mentally present, I might say something like, “Hey, I’m feeling a bit off right now, can we talk later?” That’s better than forcing a dull or disengaged chat.

Other times, I try to switch gears, ask a fun question, bring up a shared memory, or suggest doing something together instead of just talking.

I've found myself in this kind of situation several times. What i do is i give my partner and i an assignment to come up with random things to talk about or even things we love and dislike about ourselves.
