They say we should not give up on anyone. But some people are a constant pain. They hurt you repeatedly and make you feel terrible. At which point of repeated hurts that someone should reasonably give up on that person always hurting you?!

When I feel like I'm being taken for granted, I just take my leave. I don't condone such.
When it's negatively impacting your life to the point where nothing works and you're starting to experience unhealthy results.
Then it's time to take care of you first and forget the rest.

When the person's behavior has become toxic and is affecting my mental health, I would certainly give up on such a person. If you don't, you would expend so much energy to cope with someone that is not worth it.

The point where I would give up on someone I'm in a relationship with is when the pain and the hurt they cost me outweigh the benefits from such a relationship. Also, when the person is not willing to make it work or change their behavior.
I think it depends on who this "someone" is. If it is your girl/boyfriend with no legal bond, it is easy; however, if it is your wife/husband, giving up can be difficult. If you have kids, it would be even more difficult.
That's why people have to be very careful who they birth children with because that seems like an eternal bond. But I have still some people that walk away from someone they had kids with and are even better off. I have given up on lots of people that are not teachable.
You are right. Giving up on a wife or husband is not easy especially when kids are involved. It means that a lot of things should be put into consideration at the end of the day.
It’s necessary to consider giving up when the relationship becomes consistently toxic, one-sided, or damaging to your well-being. I’ve learned that setting limits and walking away is okay if efforts to improve communication and respect don’t work over time.

3. When you are no longer attracted to a person in any sense and think its going to be a burden. (TENDERNESS)
